Wood
A solid wood work-surface grows more beautiful with age. With warm mellow tones
and so many choices in timber such as maple, cherry, beech and walnut, wood
provides a practical and aseptically pleasing design element to any room. Aside
from the appeal aesthetically wood is very hardwearing, (although susceptible to
heat) and the surface improves with age, which gives it a timeless look.
Wooden work surfaces can be supplied in different thicknesses depending on your
taste and the overall look that is to be achieved. Combining wood with other
materials such as granite or glass can provide a really stunning finish.
Depending on which room the work-surface is to be used will depend on the finish
applied. In the working areas of the kitchen the wood is often treated with oil
to ensure a water repellent surface. With simple maintenance and re-oiling the
beauty and water resistance of the timber will be maintained. Whilst on dressers
and bedroom furniture the finish will often be in a hardwearing satin lacquer giving
a smooth, luxurious finish.
