PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project was a complete refurbishment of an existing kitchen in an 18ᵗʰ century cottage.

The project was completed for a young family looking to revitalise what was a tired twenty-year-old kitchen which did not function for the family.

We were instructed with all of the room preparation including lighting, electrics, plumbing, decoration, furniture, worktops and appliances.

DESIGN BRIEF

The brief for this kitchen was tricky as the kitchen had to work for several members of the family. Not only as a working kitchen space for Mum but also as a social space and an informal dining area. As well as a place for the children to complete their homework.

The kitchen had to incorporate two distinct cooking areas; one for the existing Aga set into an existing fireplace and also a separate hob and built-in oven for the times the Aga became too hot to keep on (not too often in Britain we know!)

Aesthetically the client wanted a very simple, light, bright scheme, but nothing too modern that would clash with the traditional architecture of the space.

OUR SOLUTION

We utilised a central island with different cabinet types in specific areas to accommodate all of the necessary functions. These included pan and utensil drawers for each coking area and shallow cabinetry for school books, pens, and pencils. The island also becomes the social centre of the kitchen with seating to the rear.

The window nook became the perfect place to sit and have breakfast with a bespoke bench seat and a bespoke walnut circular table.

We also utilised the existing log store to create a stunning walk-in pantry with bespoke curved acid-etched doors. This also had lighting which automatically turns on when the doors are opened.

To get the look the clients was after we created a classic shaker style kitchen, painted in brilliant white with Pure White Caesarstone work surfaces. We teamed this with walnut details and flooring to warm up the room. These details also linked to the walnut dining table to tie the separate kitchen elements together.

All of the elements came together to produce a stunning classic shaker kitchen with a twist; individually designed to suit our clients needs.
