A traditional hand-painted kitchen in a riverside home

This large kitchen was part of a home refurbishment that we undertook for a family that live in an Edwardian manor house; a former home for retired monks. To reflect the elegant architecture of the property, we designed a beautiful traditional kitchen with neo classical touches. These include three quarter turned pilasters that follow the contours of the furniture, a frieze and mouldings that run along the top of the cabinetry together with an intricate dentil cornice. We also included a special window seat with lift-up storage and it was all handpainted in an antique paint finish that we specially created.

To add to the design, we included a classic mantle with a Miele induction hob beneath and we created different height furniture, including a large break fronted larder cupboard which has an integrated fridge and freezer on either side of it, while a bank of Miele built-in ovens were housed within tall cabinetry.

The English Oak kitchen island is the central focus of the room and was designed for food preparation and informal socialising with bar stool seating at one end. The large Silver Cosmos black granite work surface, which is used throughout the kitchen, incorporates an undermount sink with taps by Perrin & Rowe that feature bespoke tap handles designed by us. Dovetail drawer boxes sit side-by-side around the island and these are directly above undercounter cupboards for additional storage. All the alloy knobs were all handmade to provide the perfect pale pewter colour to complement the tone of the antique paint.
