WE CARE

SUSTAINABILITY AND ENVIRONMENT

We build our furniture so that it will last for future generations, and we make sure that our working practices are considerate towards future generations too. Wherever possible, we source our materials from sustainable resources and use methods that are environmentally-friendly.

We work with timber suppliers that source products that are certified by The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

Unless otherwise specified by our clients, we use and recommend eco-friendly water-based paints for all hand-painted furniture

The Cane End Works Estate where we are based is partly powered by solar panels

The Simon Taylor Furniture workshop is lit by energy efficient LED lighting

We use a boiling water tap to provide coffee, tea and water in our showroom and office, which is much more energy efficient than a kettle

WE SAVE ON CARBON EMISSIONS

We also carefully dispose of any waste products in our workshop. Any discarded timber is used to fuel an industrial wood burner that heats our workshop. For this we received a grant from Low Carbon Workspaces, a government-led incentive scheme. They have audited our workplace and our carbon footprint has been reduced by 26.6 tonnes per year.

The reduction in CO2e achieved through the project was calculated by an analysis of waste wood burnt on site to provide heating, waste diverted from landfill/recycling plants, and removal of burning oil as a primary heating fuel. The energy saving was converted to a greenhouse gas emissions saving using the carbon conversion figure for wood waste to landfill, and burning oil, as published by the Government at the date of project installation
(November 2020).
