During the lockdowns in 2020, working from home became the norm for a large number of professionals. Many started working from the kitchen table, the kitchen island, or from the spare bedroom. Over time, demand began to grow for a dedicated area to create a home office, but people did not always have the space for a separate study in their homes.
With careful planning and the use of tall bespoke pocket doors that slide back fully into side recesses, we recently designed a fully operational home office in our client’s new Shaker kitchen, with the doors completely in-keeping with the overall aesthetic. When it is no longer required for the day, the pocket doors are closed and the workstation is completely concealed from view. Our client had one stipulation, which was that the office chair also had to fit within the space and also be hidden away when the doors were closed, and we factored that in to the design.
This space-efficient home office features oak veneer internal cabinetry and it includes a discreet void at the back of the cabinet to also conceal all cables and wires. Three deep drawers sit to the left beneath the desktop and there is internal shelving for books, folders and paperwork. Lit with warm white LED lights, the entire home office fits within a recessed area of 1250mm.
Bespoke home offices by Simon Taylor Furniture can be installed in kitchens, bedrooms or hallways and they start from £5,000.
