Since 1985, we have been designing, making and installing beautiful bespoke Shaker country kitchens in period homes in Buckinghamshire and the Home Counties, where we have developed a real understanding of the relationship between creating the timeless design of your kitchen with the architecture of your property.

What is a Shaker Country Kitchen?

Taking inspiration from the elegant and functional furniture designs created by the Shaker movement of the 1700’s, today’s Shaker kitchens suit all types of period properties, including country homes. They tend to feature in-frame cabinetry with tongue and grooved panelling. to maintain the traditional styling, cupboards have ball knob handles, while drawers have cup pull handles. Many Shaker country kitchens are painted in heritage colours. At Simon Taylor Furniture, because every kitchen we design and make is truly bespoke, we will ensure that every centimetre of space is used and we will design your cabinetry so that it always fits within the dimensions of the room.

Shaker Country Kitchens in Listed Buildings

We are specialists in designing, making and installing furniture in Grade II Listed properties. We respect the fabric of your home, if it has original exposed brickwork, timber cladding and, or beamed ceilings. We will always find ways to be sympathetic to the original structure of the building and we will highlight the best elements to provide a seamless look in your kitchen. We will also recommend appliances, worktops and accessories that provide contemporary functionality yet look perfectly in-keeping with the rest of the room.

Shaker Country Kitchens with Structural Beams

Many of the Shaker country kitchens that we design, make and install are in traditional properties that have vaulted ceilings and structural beams. Because Simon Taylor Furniture is a specialist in full home renovations, we can make a feature of the original structural elements in your home, and we will design the kitchen with accents to bring the whole project together. We can oversee, or undertake building works to remove walls or ceilings.
