Entertaining Made Easy: Wine Storage

ENTERTAINING MADE EASY:
WINE STORAGE
There was a time when people kept their wine collections in cellars, or under the stairs to ensure that they were preserved in a cool and dark environment. Any bottles of chilled Champagne or white wine that were immediately required were put in the fridge for ‘drinking now.’ However, a standard fridge or fridge freezer is designed for storing food and is not the best place to keep bottles of wine because there is too much vibration and it is usually set at the wrong humidity level, which can affect the taste.
Many cellars have been re-purposed and nowadays with the rise of the open plan kitchen, more people want their wine readily to hand for entertaining in the kitchen diner. Thanks to technological advances in wine cooling by appliance manufacturers, wine fridges, or wine climate cabinets are increasingly integrated within the kitchen layout. It is rare when we do not include a wine fridge in our Simon Taylor Furniture bespoke kitchens.
WHY HAVE A WINE FRIDGE?
A wine fridge, or wine climate cabinet, will preserve red wines or white wines wine at the perfect ambient temperature, and some wine cabinets are zoned so you can store whites and reds in the same appliance. They have pull-out shelves and UV glass fronts to protect them wine from light. They have adjustable digital temperature controls to ensure the wines are stored correctly and they are designed to have minimal vibration, keeping wines in an environment that is close to a cellar.
COOLING WALLS AND UNDERCOUNTER WINE FRIDGES
If you have the space, a cooling wall is a great way to store all your fresh and frozen goods together with your favourite wines. Usually situated side-by-side, the cooling wall consists of a tall integrated wine conditioner at the centre of a tall integrated larder fridge on one side and the tall freezer on the other. We partner with Gaggenau, Miele and Siemens, and all make integrated cooling and wine cooling models.
Because a kitchen island is usually designed with seating for informal socialising, we also tend to specify an undercounter wine cabinet within the facing side of the island, making it easily accessible when entertaining.
