Bromley Bedroom

A romantic bedroom with gothic detailing

This project was a commission to refurbish a large family house in Kent for which we also made the furniture for the bathroom and dressing room. Our clients wanted an elegant and romantic look with lots of architectural detailing in a Neoclassical style and this was continued throughout the scheme. Our team of craftspeople were able to utilise all their cabinetry skills to handmake the wardrobes, the headboard and the freestanding bedside cabinets, which were all hand-painted in an antique paint finish.

The wardrobe takes up an entire wall with two glazed gothic arch doors on either side of a carved central break-fronted linen press with a fluted frieze that has panels and bolection door mouldings. This features tall turned reeded pilasters that wrap around the cabinetry and the doors and drawer fronts have beaten pewter knobs.

The headboard features beautiful panelling and a centrally carved pediment at the top, reminiscent of the style from the Baroque period. Each of the bedside cabinets feature a small dovetail drawer above a shallow cabinet with matching bolection mouldings.
