A contemporary handleless kitchen for a new-build home

This kitchen concept was designed for our clients, a family of four who are building a new property in a rural location near St. Albans, Hertfordshire. The clients were keen to have a kitchen with strong eco qualities, and we duly sourced materials that would fit with their specifications.

This open plan handleless kitchen features plenty of storage space within the entire layout. The 13mm handleless cabinetry door and drawer fronts are all made from an innovative antimicrobial, fingerprint resistant and self-healing material sourced specially for this project.

The focal point is the large island with an 80mm thick Pietra Grey Marble worktop. This is split into two distinct zones; the left-hand side features a wet area for food preparation that includes a 500mm flush mount sink by Blanco with a Quooker Flex Boiling Water Tap. The right-hand side features a cooking area that incorporates an 80cm vented induction hob by Miele, which has an in-built extractor so no overhead extraction is required.

The front of the island features deep drawers, while the task side includes a mix of cabinets and deep drawers, with space included for an integrated 60cm dishwasher. Featuring a signature design concept by Simon Taylor Furniture, there is an 80mm thick White Onyx quartz-clad cantilever table running from the centre of the island that seats eight people. To complement, this quartz material is also used for the upstand along the main run of cabinetry behind the island. On either side of the cantilever table is a Caple 30cm wine cabinet, carefully positioned next to the table for when the clients are entertaining.

On either side of the island, and built floor-to-ceiling is further handleless cabinetry in white. To the left of the island are door fronts that conceal an integrated larder fridge and tall freezer, side-by-side, with additional top boxes for storage. To the right of the island is a bank of cooking appliances installed within housings. These include two side-by-side Miele Artline Ovens. Above one is a Miele Artline Combination Microwave and above the other is a Miele Artline Combination Steam Oven.
