Chalfont Kitchen

A contemporary Shaker kitchen

For this project our clients were looking for a complete redesign of their existing kitchen diner. They had recently purchased the property and the existing kitchen did not meet their requirements and there was very little utility space. They also wanted a change to the look of the kitchen to have a warm, welcoming space for them and their guests.

In order to give the client exactly what they were looking for we removed a structural pillar to allow for a tall run of cabinetry. We also created a new opening, and installed a new wall, blocking off one corner of the space to create a large utility room which is accessed from a secret door made to look like a tall furniture cabinet.

The island could then be repositioned, allowing it to be used from the ovens and sink, becoming a key functional element as well as providing both high level breakfast seating and an informal dining space which links to the television and family zone. Classic shaker cabinetry gives the kitchen a sense of timelessness but has been contemporised with simple framing and oversized stiles and rails. Heather coloured glass splashbacks soften the look and contrast beautifully with the end grain American Black Walnut elements.
